Falconer supports Myndtime with sustainable purpose-led packaging

Myndtime calming device in nature

Leading Yorkshire-based carton manufacturer, Falconer, is supporting the continued evolution of Myndtime, a wellbeing brand that helps children, adolescents and adults manage anxiety, stress and overwhelm through movement-based wearable tools.

Myndtime was initially founded to support people returning to work post-Covid who were struggling with anxiety, alongside a personal family experience that highlighted the need for calming, accessible tools. The original concept has since evolved through market research and experience within the education system, resulting in a discreet, user-friendly wearable designed to support self-regulation throughout the day.

Available via the Myndtime website and Amazon, the wearables are sold directly to consumers and B2B customers, including schools, colleges, universities and professional services. Users value the comfort, softness and professional appearance of the wrist-worn design, which can also be laid flat on desks or used as a circular stim tool. Feedback highlights its usefulness for people experiencing anxiety, stress, digital overwhelm and neurodivergent conditions, including ADHD, autism, PTSD and OCD.

Falconer worked closely with the Myndtime team to develop a packaging solution that reflects both brands’ shared commitment to sustainability, quality and thoughtful design. The outer carton is produced from Holmen Incada Excel FSC-certified board, manufactured in the UK. Four-colour process printing is applied to the reverse side of the board to create a premium, uncoated feel, finished with a matt varnish. Production was completed on Falconer’s latest Heidelberg press technology.

The pack construction was developed by Falconer’s in-house CAD team and designed to showcase the wearable itself. A windowed outer carton provides clear visibility of the wristband, while a printed fitment, produced from recycled PET (rPET), securely positions the wearable at the centre of the pack. The development process also gave a student designer the opportunity to work alongside Falconer’s professional team on the CAD design.

Pat Porter, Founder and Tracy Stones, CEO of Myndtime, said:“We are delighted with the quality and sustainability of our Falconer packaging. The look and feel are consistentlypraised and the windowed design showcases our wearable clearly. Falconer has been incredibly supportive throughout, guiding us with care and professionalism and we value the opportunity to learn from a team with such a strong reputation in packaging.”

Colin Pow, sales &marketing director at Falconer, added:“This project was about more than producing a carton, it was about creating packaging that genuinely supports the product and the brand behind it,” added Colin Pow, sales &marketing director at Falconer. “Our CAD, print and production teams worked closely with Myndtime to deliver a sustainable, high-quality solution that reflects both performance and purpose.”

As Myndtime continues to innovate its product range and expand its wellbeing partnerships, Falconer remains closely involved in meeting the brand’s evolving packaging requirements.

Falconer creates distinctive luxury four-can presentation box for Toby&Co

Toby & Co - 4 Can Presentation Box

Leading carton manufacturer, Falconer Print & Packaging, has partnered with emerging luxury drinks brand Toby&Co to create a distinctive four-can presentation pack for the brand’s inaugural expression. Designed to reflect the brand’s premium positioning and storytelling ethos, the new pack represents a step change from the standard 2×2 carriers typically used in the sector.

Crafted to feel rigid, substantial and gift-worthy, the box was produced using CrownBoard Prestige, selected for its strength, tactile quality and suitability for high-end presentation formats. Falconer printed both sides of the board using a four-colour process and applied a matt varnish for a refined finish. Inside, a bespoke fitment system securely separates the cans while elevating the sense of luxury. The structure also features a front locking tab that holds the product tightly in place and ensures a premium unboxing experience from start to finish.

Founder and CEO Toby Gorn approached Falconer on the recommendation of an industry colleague, with a clear goal to create a launch pack that genuinely did justice to the product and the brand’s style.

“It was anticipated to be gorgeous, but it turned out even better than expected,” said Toby. “The quality is exceptional – it’s a perfect design, beautifully executed and a piece of art in itself. From start to finish, the Falconer team were fast, creative and always thinking outside the box. We’re incredibly happy with the result and very grateful to the entire team for their efforts.”

Launched as a limited-availability product, Toby&Co’s first expression is available through the brand’s website, with selected listings also live across premium specialist retailers, bars and restaurants. The four-can presentation box serves as both a gifting option and a collector-style showcase for customers seeking elevated, non-alcoholic drinking experiences.

“Working with Toby&Co on their first expression has been a fantastic collaboration,” added Colin Pow, sales director of Falconer Packaging. “Toby came to us with a clear vision for a luxury four-can presentation pack that would truly stand apart from the standard formats in the market. Our team relished the challenge and we’re extremely proud of the result. From engineering a rigid, premium structure to elevating every detail through materials, print and finishing, it’s a piece that not only protects the product, but also enhances the brand story and customer experience. We look forward to supporting Toby&Co on their forthcoming releases.”

Following the success of the launch pack, Toby&Co plans to release its second expression, with a similar high-spec box already under consideration. A mixed SKUs presentation box is also in development, underscoring the brand’s commitment to premium packaging as a core pillar of its customer experience.

Falconer introduces four-day working week to support better work-life balance

Falconer Head Office

Leading carton manufacturer Falconer has adopted a four-day working week for its team, strengthening its commitment to employee well-being, productivity and stability. The move was inspired by managing director Richard Martin’s personal experience with a four-day schedule, which he has followed for several years.

Effective 31st March 2025, the new model allows team members to condense their hours into four days while ensuring uninterrupted customer service and production. All departments will remain operational Monday to Friday, so clients experience the high standards Falconer is known for.

“After working a four-day week and experiencing first-hand the benefits of a better work-life balance, I wanted to extend that opportunity to the rest of the team. It’s a commercial decision grounded in putting people first,” said Martin. “We believe that happier, more focused employees lead to stronger business outcomes and early signs already support that thinking.”

So far, about 50% of Falconer’s team have opted into the new pattern, with many others interested in transitioning soon. The system provides flexibility while maintaining operational resilience. This phased approach allows the business to adapt gradually, giving team members confidence to explore a new way of working.

Although the transition is still early, employee feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. Staff report greater focus, improved energy, and more time for family, hobbies, or to recharge. This is beginning to translate into stronger productivity and morale.

The primary aim has always been to give our people the option of a healthier work-life balance. However, we also view this as an opportunity to position ourselves more attractively in a competitive job market. It’s a strong message to future recruits and a meaningful way to retain the talented people we already have,” added Martin.

In an industry where speed, service and reliability are paramount, Falconer’s move demonstrates that thoughtful change can benefit both people and customers. By rethinking traditional working structures, the business creates an environment where staff can thrive without compromising what clients value most.

Falconer invests in state-of-the-art Heidelberg press to drive future growth

Heidelberg Press

West Yorkshire-based carton manufacturer, Falconer Print & Packaging, has announced the successful commissioning of a new Heidelberg Speedmaster XL 75-6+L press. The strategic move is designed to future-proof the business and meet growing customer demand with innovative print solutions.

Following a 2.5-week installation, the Heidelberg press was fully commissioned and signed off on 17 February 2025. The press immediately commenced production with an inaugural project – a complex whisky carton – highlighting the press’s precision and versatility. To ensure seamless operation, Falconer implemented a comprehensive four-week training program for its four printing teams. The press is planned to be fully operational by mid-March 2025.

The addition of the Heidelberg press represents a pivotal move to future-proof the business for the next decade, aligning with the company’s growth aspirations. This investment not only increases production capacity but also introduces advanced finishing options, enabling Falconer to offer enhanced value to customers’ cartons.

The decision to invest in the Heidelberg Speedmaster XL 75-6+L followed an extensive evaluation process. Improved colour consistency ensures brand integrity, with detailed reporting available upon request. The capabilities of the Heidelberg press open avenues into new markets, particularly the food sector. The ability to produce direct food contact packaging using vegetable-based inks positions Falconer to meet the stringent requirements of the food industry, paving the way for significant growth opportunities.

Falconer’s Victorian Christmas House
A timeless gift that blends nostalgia and innovation

Falconer’s Victorian Christmas House

This past Christmas, Falconer once again captured the magic of the festive season with a gift that perfectly combines artistry, innovation, and tradition. The beautifully designed packaging features a Victorian house with a cosy living room scene, including a roaring fire, twinkling decorations and a charming hand-drawn illustration of snoozing cats and a sneaky little mouse.

The nostalgic setting conjures up memories of time spent with loved ones, perfectly encapsulating the spirit of Christmas.

Crafting the magic

To bring this design to life, Falconer utilised their trusted Holmens Incada Excel board. Known for its aged, uncoated feel, this premium material not only delivers stunning ink conversion but also pairs seamlessly with foil embellishments. Gold and silver foils were carefully applied to accentuate the bulbs and baubles, adding a festive sparkle. Custom metallic colours were created through innovative overprinting techniques, giving the design a glow that dances in the light.

Thoughtful festive treats

The Christmas gifts were more than just visually captivating – they were thoughtfully curated to delight the senses. Recipients were treated to:

  • Dark Cherry Rum and Gingerlicious Gin by Solway Spirits, offering festive indulgence with a warm kick.
  • Artisan chocolates handcrafted in Yorkshire by Chocolini’s, perfectly complementing the festive mood.
  • Two fabulous hand-poured candles by The Yorkshire Candle Co.: Bakewell Tart and Warm Gingerbread, filling homes with seasonal scents.

Innovative festive touches

Falconer has a legacy of pushing the boundaries of conceptual carton design, and the 2024 creation was no exception. Drawing on past successes – such as the fairy lights of The Nutcracker (2022) and the light-reactive sound of The Carousel (2023) – the more recent gift introduces a working analogue clock embedded above the fireplace. This intricate detail not only adds a sense of movement but also serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of cherishing Christmas ‘time’.

Falconer creates striking gift packaging for Sloemotion

Liqueurs Triple Packaging

Leading carton manufacturer, Falconer Print & Packaging, has produced a range of gift packs for Yorkshire distiller, Sloemotion. The stand-out carton packs combine functionality with sophisticated design, creating a visually impactful product for both retail and gifting.

Sloemotion needed a packaging solution to accommodate two of their brands, each with identical bottle sizes. Falconer provided an innovative design that enabled the use of a single cutter for the bottle fittings and bases, while still allowing for distinctively printed outers for each brand. For one of the brands, Sloemotion required an 8-pack – a challenge that Falconer transformed into a striking and practical gift pack.

Falconer’s design team developed a solution that maximised economies of scale: by designing a carton profile that accommodates multiple product configurations across both brands, Sloemotion benefitted from significant production efficiencies without compromising the visual appeal. The design also features a front aperture that allows consumers to view the bottle labels, adding further shelf impact.

The cartons were produced using Incada Excel 540-micron reverse side out, selected for its uncoated, earthy feel, which complements Sloemotion’s colourful designs. The choice of board was particularly significant as it aligns with sustainability and locality goals. Incada is manufactured in Workington by Holmen, ensuring a small carbon footprint due to the proximity of all three companies involved in the production process. The cartons were then printed in four colours and finished with matt varnish, emphasising the premium nature of the product while maintaining durability and visual consistency. This combination of materials and finishes reinforces Sloemotion’s dedication to quality and sustainability.

Commenting on the finished products, Joff Curtoys, founder and director of Sloemotion Distillery, said: “The finished products speak for themselves – excellent design, crisp print quality and flawless execution. The Falconer team were instrumental in resolving challenges, particularly around the 8-pack’s front aperture, where they suggested solutions to prevent bowing. Their support and expertise have been invaluable.

“We’ve worked with Falconer for years. Though we’re approached by many packaging suppliers, Falconer’s professionalism, design skills and competitive pricing, coupled with their Yorkshire roots, make them our go-to partner.”

Falconer’s Colin Pow added: “It’s been a pleasure to work with Sloemotion on these luxurious packs. Our goal was to deliver packaging that combines functionality with striking aesthetics, emphasising the premium nature of Sloemotion’s brand. The collaboration highlights the close-knit relationships within our local supply chain – from the board’s manufacture to the final product’s creation.”

Falconer manufactures decorative printed folding cartons for the pharmaceutical, cosmetic, drinks and spirits, giftware, healthcare, veterinary, petcare and luxury confectionery sectors. Incorporating high-quality added value finishes, combined with state-of-the-art equipment, the company has a reputation for delivering innovative packaging solutions combined with high-quality service.
